Collections
How long do collections stay on my report?
Whether paid or unpaid, charge offs and collections are reported to the bureaus for 7 years from the original delinquency date. If your debt becomes older than the statute of limitations for your state, the debt collector no longer has the legal right to se you for the said debt.
Does paying off a collection raise my FICO score?
Yes. The account will still be on your credit report with the “Paid/Settled” status. Paying off the collection will raise your score slightly, but it is still derogatory information. Even if your collections are paid, they will still often prevent you from getting various forms of financing. Basically, paid collections ARE still derogatory and they DO hurt you!
Will my collection ever come back after you delete it?
Once we delete your paid collection, it is permanent. An unpaid collection, however, can be deleted, but the effect is only TEMPORARY. Collection agencies report the balance and status of your unpaid collection every few months. Deleting an unpaid collection is only useful for a temporary FICO score improvement.
How long will it take for my collection to be deleted?
It takes around 5-7 business days to delete each collection. Please see the “Timing” section in our Overview.
